March is Traumatic Brain Injury Awareness Month, which is recognized every year and provides an opportunity to raise awareness of traumatic brain injury (TBI) prevention and improve the quality of life for those impacted by TBI.
New Mexicans can protect their children from traumatic brain injuries by following a few helpful safety tips while recreating on their off-highway vehicles (OHVs):
- Wear helmets while operating their OHVs, which include ATVs, ROVs, dirt motorcycles and snowmobiles.
- Make sure children are operating appropriately sized OHVs.
- Take an approved safety course to ensure proper techniques are taught.
- Be aware of the signs and symptoms of a concussion.
- If your child has a head injury, don't hesitate to take them to a healthcare provider.
OHV in-person classes are currently scheduled in Albuquerque and Roswell.?
