The catalog also features a Pennsylvania long rifle, Sharps and Springfield carbines, a rare blunderbuss, pepperbox revolvers and small pistols from early American and British makers. Many of the arms remain in remarkably high condition and several are presented in original cases with tools and accessories.

E&W Bond Pair of .65 Caliber Percussion Pistols, Cased

This impressive pair of .65 caliber percussion belt pistols from E&W Bond of London offers classic English form with substantial presence. Each pistol features a five-inch octagon barrel with smoothbore dimension measuring .655 and an across the flats measurement of .905. Belt clips, trapdoor grip caps and strong engraving add to the appeal. Individual weight is 1.6 pounds. Condition is notably strong with barrels retaining at least 85 percent brown, approximately 60 percent polished blue and roughly 70 percent niter. Colors remain at least 50 percent. Wood stands at approximately 85 percent with sharp markings throughout. The original wood case with maker label and tools accompanies the set and remains in good condition, although the lid shows warping consistent with age.

Henry Nock Flintlock Brass Blunderbuss with Bayonet, circa 1780

Made in London around 1780, this Henry Nock flintlock blunderbuss is a striking example of early British defensive arms. The 11.75-inch brass barrel flares to a muzzle diameter of 1.475 inches and is fitted with a spring-loaded bayonet that deploys with authority. Brass furniture includes guard, tang and butt. The bore is unusually smooth for its age and the lockwork operates correctly. The bayonet mechanism remains energetic. The stock shows a forearm repair and an open crack on the forward left side, yet the overall presentation remains handsome for a brass blunderbuss of this period from one of London’s most respected makers.

Lang Pair of 70 Bore Percussion Howdah Pistols, London, circa 1850

This exceptional pair of Lang 70 bore howdah pistols exemplifies the highest tier of mid nineteenth century British craftsmanship. Serial numbers 1410 and 1411 feature 6.5-inch Damascus barrels with smooth bores measuring .695 and muzzle diameter of .895. Each pistol wears fine brown, color case, polished blue and niter finishes that remain in strong condition. Barrel brown stands at approximately 90 percent with colors at roughly 60 percent and blue at approximately 70 percent. The niter finish is approximately 50 percent. Weight is 2.8 pounds per pistol. Engraving is particularly attractive with delicate scroll on the tangs, sides and traps. Hammers are shaped as trumpeting elephants, a classic howdah motif. Initial plates are blank. Wood shows at approximately 85 percent with signs of added finish. The case with maker label includes tools and a bullet mold and shows in good condition.

B. Sturman Pair of .60 Caliber Flintlock Dueling Pistols, Cased

This pair of .60 caliber flintlock dueling pistols by B. Sturman of London dates to approximately 1815 and presents a refined early nineteenth century fighting set. The 9.5-inch octagon barrels measure .835 across the flats with a .600 bore and bead front sight. Engraving is highlighted with gold bands, and each pistol includes a hammer safety. Individual weight is 2.0 pounds. The bores show browning with moderate pitting, yet mechanics remain solid. As refinished, the barrel brown is approximately 80 percent with minor areas of roughness. Colors have silvered with evident tarnish. Wood remains solid and measures at around 70 percent. A vintage case accompanies the pair and contains a mold, flask and tools. Overall condition of the case is fair.

Purdey Percussion Double Rifle, 1865

The Purdey percussion double rifle offered in this sale is an outstanding example of the firm’s mid nineteenth century sporting arms. Made around 1865, serial number 6945 is fully matched on barrels, tang, ramrod and bullet mold. The 28.75-inch Damascus barrels measure .435 across the grooves and .405 at the lands. Sights include a blade front and a drift adjustable rear with a fixed leaf marked 100 and a folding leaf marked 200. Hammer safeties retain traces of niter blue, and the rifle shows color case and polished blue elements along with a well-shaped walnut stock. The stock features wrap checkering, a scalloped cheek rest with double shadow lines, a patch box and a checkered metal butt plate with widow’s peak. Weight is 8.4 pounds with a length of pull of 14.35 inches. Bores remain bright with some browning and sharp rifling. Barrel finish is approximately 70 percent. Colors and blue stand at approximately 40 percent. Wood shows at roughly 50 percent. The case with maker label includes a broad assortment of tools and accessories and remains in good condition with a cracked lid and missing key.
