Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating an incident in which a Gary man died in Lake Michigan on Wednesday.
At 6:17 p.m., Lake County 911 received a call reporting an unresponsive adult male had been pulled from Lake Michigan at Marquette Park Beach.
The man, Joseph Davis, 57, was later pronounced deceased at the scene.
Initial investigation revealed a witness reported seeing Davis alone and struggling in chest-deep water before going under. Two Good Samaritans entered the water and pulled out Davis. Lifesaving efforts were administered but were unsuccessful.
Officers on scene received reports of a second person missing in the water but were able to confirm those reports to be inaccurate.
The investigation is ongoing. No foul play is suspected.
Agencies assisting on scene were the Gary Police Department, Gary Fire Department, Lake County Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit, and the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
