Porcupine Mountains Snowshoe Lacing Program

Saturday, Dec. 9, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST

Porcupine Mountains Winter Sports Complex

36672 M-107, Ontonagon

Lace your own traditional cross-country snowshoes in this eight-hour course. By the end of the day, you'll walk away with hand-laced snowshoes, an excellent way to explore Michigan’s wintry outdoors.

The class is for ages 16 and older. Cost is $180 per person, which includes in-person instruction; two wooden, 10x46-inch Iverson snowshoe frames, tubular nylon lacing material and super-A style snowshoe bindings.

After the class is complete, you will still need to varnish your snowshoes on your own before they can be used in the snow.

To register, go to Michigan.gov/DNRLicenses and click on the "Purchase a license" button. Sign in (using either a username and password or your ID and birthdate), and find the class under the Outdoor Skills Academy tab. For questions or registration help, contact Katie Urban at 906-885-5206.

Registration is required by Dec. 4, and cancellations must be made by Dec. 5 to guarantee a full refund. A Recreation Passport is required on your vehicle for entry into the state park.

This class is part of the Department of Natural Resources Outdoor Skills Academy, which offers in-depth, expert instruction, gear and hands-on learning for a range of outdoor activities at locations around the state. Learn more at Michigan.gov/OutdoorSkills.
