You are invited to help Pokagon State Park celebrate its 100th birthday on July 26 by enjoying a variety of events.
Here is a rundown:
Spring Shelter Shuttle – 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Take a shuttle ride from the Nature Center to the Spring Shelter and collect a commemorative water bottle to fill with spring water while supplies last. Water bottles sponsored by the Steuben County Tourism Bureau.
Potawatomi Inn Lunch Buffet – 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Enjoy a tasty buffet at Potawatomi Inn before you head to the Spring Shelter and Nature Center. Items to be featured include fried chicken; meatloaf; and Indiana’s state pie, sugar cream, like diners might have been served when the restaurant opened in 1927. Cost is $25.99 per person.
Dedication and Celebration – 2 p.m.
Come to the Nature Center for the dedication of the Spring Shelter restoration and the centennial celebration. Light refreshments to follow after the ceremonies, sponsored by the Steuben County Tourism Bureau.
Complete the Centennial Challenge – Anytime
This self-guided adventure takes you throughout the state park and Trine State Recreation Area. Explore the park’s unique history by visiting at least seven of nine stops and taking a photo at each location to earn a commemorative sticker. More details at dnr.IN.gov/healthy.
