The Coast Guard Foundation Hosts Its Inaugural Texas Reception

Stonington, Conn. - The Coast Guard Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to the education, welfare and morale of all Coast Guard members and their families, announced today that its Inaugural Texas Reception, hosted on September 19, 2012 in Houston, raised funds for morale projects at two Texas Coast Guard Marine Safety Units. In addition, the Texas reception helped increase awareness for the Foundation's mission in the area and throughout the country.

The two Coast Guard Marine Safety Units that received the morale funds were Texas City and Port Arthur which received a beach volleyball court and softball equipment, respectively. The event is the first of what will be an annual celebration that raises funds to support the Foundation's morale boosting projects throughout Texas.

Communicating the core pillars of the Foundation, the event focused on education, support and relief, and was made possible by a dedicated local committee that included Niels Aalund, James Black, Ray Botto, Paul Caruselle, Bill Diehl, Robert Goolsby, Tom Marian and Robert Thompson. Also in attendance was Coast Guard District 8 Commander Rear Admiral Roy Nash.

"In finding ways to support the Coast Guard, the Foundation excels at identifying real needs in Coast Guard communities all across the country."

For more than 40 years, the Coast Guard Foundation has been committed to inspiring leadership, learning and a proud legacy of service to our nation by supporting the men and women of the United States Coast Guard and their families. The Foundation provides higher education grants to enlisted personnel, reservists and their children, financial support for college to families of Coast Guard members lost in the line of duty, financial relief to Coast Guard families who have lost possessions in natural disasters, and support for morale programs, including funding recreation, exercise and family-oriented facilities.

About The Coast Guard Foundation

The Coast Guard Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1969. It was initially created to provide funds for academic, athletic, and morale needs of the Coast Guard Academy and its cadets, which were not covered by federal operational funding. In 1986, the Foundation expanded its charter to support projects that enhance the education, welfare and morale of all Coast Guard members and their families. A Board of 100 Trustees from all parts of the country governs the Foundation. The Trustees elect from their members a 30 person Board of Directors to oversee the management of the Foundation.
