Williams Knife Company Founder Chris Williams to Share the Story Behind "Legendary Knives for Legendary Lives" on Hunting Matters

Houston Safari Club Foundation (HSCF) is pleased to announce that Chris Williams, founder of Williams Knife Company, will be featured on the Hunting Matters podcast for a conversation about craftsmanship, family heritage, outdoor life and the evolution of one of America's distinctive knife companies.

Inspired by his grandfather, a second-generation knife maker, Williams grew up watching him transform discarded bandsaw blades into functional, handcrafted knives. That early exposure sparked a passion that eventually led Williams to leave a promising career in the financial industry and dedicate himself full-time to knife making.

Founded in 2005, Williams Knife Company began with Chris making custom knives one at a time. The company's breakthrough came in 2010 with The Edisto, an oyster knife specifically designed for the small-cluster oysters found along the East Coast. The innovative design earned the overall 2011 Made in the South Award from Garden & Gun, helping propel Williams Knife Company to a new level of recognition.

"I have so many knife designs in my head that I wanted to move beyond making my knives one at a time," says Williams. "My goal is to design and make knives and tools that are as functional as they are beautiful and something you will be proud to pass down to your kids for generations."

During his Hunting Matters appearance, Williams discusses the evolution of the company from a one-man custom knife operation into a broader brand offering knives, tools and accessories designed to combine performance, durability, and distinctive design.

A major focus of the conversation is the company's new Heritage Series, which blends modern manufacturing and efficiency with classic knife designs inspired by the history of blades and tools. Williams explains how he approaches traditional patterns, identifying the characteristics worth preserving while adding modern refinements for today's users.

The discussion also explores the company's expanding culinary knife line and the challenge of developing an everyday-carry knife that delivers serious performance while remaining accessible to a broader audience.

For hunters and outdoor enthusiasts, Williams shares his philosophy on designing knives around real-world use, including the importance of blade geometry, materials, ergonomics, and functionality. He also discusses how his own experience living outside influences the tools he creates.

At the heart of the conversation is Williams Knife Company's motto: "Legendary Knives for Legendary Lives." Williams explains how that philosophy reflects his belief that a quality knife should be more than a disposable tool. It should be something that becomes part of a person's experiences and, ultimately, something worth passing down to the next generation.

The interview also looks toward the future of Williams Knife Company, including new designs and upcoming collaborations.
