The Youth Hunting Story Contest is back on for its fifth year! Montana hunters between the ages of 10 and 17 have the opportunity to submit a story of their hunt for a chance to experience a once-in-a-lifetime visit with the governor in the State Capitol in Helena for a wild game feed and win amazing prizes from Montana brands like Sitka, Stone Glacier, Crazy Creek, and Kenetrek Boots.
All your young hunter must do is visit youthhunting.mt.gov by December 2 and submit a story of no more than 500 words and a photo from their 2026 hunt. Hunters must be Montana residents and licensed hunters or apprentice hunters. Eligible entries include harvesting any legal game, furbearer animals, or birds in Montana.
There is a great chance to win! The governor selects 10 hunters, five aged 10-13 and five aged 14-17. The winners are announced in December and then hosted in the Capitol in January. The 2026 contest's prize partners include Sitka, Stone Glacier, Kenetrek Boots, J2 Taxidermy, Crazy Creek, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Daniel Defense, Leupold, Vortex, Murdoch's, the Montana Outfitters & Guides Association, and Zink's Big Sky Archery Targets.
