Outdoor Mentors has unveiled a new brand identity, including a shortened name and new logo, as the nonprofit organization enters an important period of growth and expansion.
Formerly known as Pass It On – Outdoor Mentors, the organization will now operate simply as Outdoor Mentors. The updated name and visual identity reflect both the organization's history and its growing national presence, while providing a cleaner, more recognizable brand for the future.
"This is much more than a new logo," said Dr. Scott Petrie, CEO of Outdoor Mentors. "Outdoor Mentors has grown considerably, and our new identity better reflects who we are today and where we are headed. At our core, however, our mission remains unchanged: connecting young people with caring mentors who introduce them to hunting, fishing, conservation and the outdoors."
A defining feature of Outdoor Mentors is its emphasis on ongoing mentorship rather than one-time outdoor experiences. Young people are provided opportunities to participate in multiple hunting, fishing and other outdoor activities alongside experienced mentors, allowing relationships, skills and confidence to develop over time. As part of the model, parents and/or guardians accompany the youth, helping create lasting connections to outdoor recreation within families.
These experiences have benefits that extend well beyond recruiting the next generation of hunters, anglers and conservationists. At a time when young people are spending less time outdoors, Outdoor Mentors provides meaningful opportunities to reconnect with nature, helping to counteract what has been described as nature-deficit disorder. Time outdoors, physical activity and positive relationships with mentors and peers can also contribute to the mental, physical and social well-being of young people.
The organization's growth is made possible through partnerships with state fish and wildlife agencies, conservation organizations, foundations, corporations, landowners, volunteers and individual donors. These partners provide financial support, access to land and outdoor opportunities, equipment, expertise and, most importantly, mentors willing to invest their time in young people.
"Our model depends on strong partnerships," Petrie said. "We can provide the organizational structure, staff and programming, but our impact is multiplied by the agencies, conservation groups, businesses, landowners, donors and volunteers who share our belief that young people need meaningful opportunities to experience the outdoors."
The rebrand comes during a period of significant growth for Outdoor Mentors. In 2025, the organization provided more than 1,700 mentored outdoor opportunities across eight states, and in 2026 expanded programming into Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Outdoor Mentors is now implementing a three-year strategic plan designed to responsibly expand its geographic reach and the number of young people served while preserving the personal, relationship-based nature of its programs.
"Outdoor Mentors has an incredible opportunity to reach more young people and make a lasting difference in their lives," said Eric Dinger, Chair of the Outdoor Mentors Board of Directors. "This new identity respects the organization's history while positioning Outdoor Mentors for its next phase of growth. Most importantly, it keeps the focus where it belongs, on young people, mentorship and creating lifelong connections to the outdoors."
The new brand was developed in partnership with Rockhouse, with input from Outdoor Mentors staff and Board members. The new identity will be introduced through a phased rollout across the organization's website, social media, apparel, printed materials and other communications.
As the new Outdoor Mentors identity rolls out, supporters can also stay tuned for new branded merchandise and special fundraising opportunities that will provide additional ways to show their support and help put more young people in the field.
Be Part of What Comes Next
The new Outdoor Mentors brand represents more than a new name and a new look. It reflects the momentum of an organization that has proven the power of mentorship and is preparing to bring that impact to more young people, families and communities across the country. Outdoor Mentors has set an ambitious goal to expand to 30 states by 2030, and achieving that vision will require partners who believe in the future of the outdoors and are ready to invest in the next generation.
Outdoor Mentors invites individuals, foundations, corporations, state agencies, conservation organizations and other partners to be part of this next chapter. Gifts, grants, sponsorships and strategic partnerships will help expand programming into new states, recruit and support mentors, provide equipment and outdoor opportunities, strengthen local partnerships and create meaningful experiences for young people who are interested in the outdoors, but otherwise may never have the opportunity to participate.
