The Mule Deer Foundation (MDF) is pleased to announce that President and CEO Greg Sheehan has accepted an appointment to serve on the Hunting and Shooting Sports Conservation and Access Council, representing big game hunting interests across the United States.
The Department of the Interior recently announced the members of the reestablished Hunting and Shooting Sports Conservation and Access Council. The federal advisory group provides recommendations to the Secretaries of the Interior and Agriculture on wildlife and habitat conservation, hunting and shooting sports, partnerships, and public access to hunting and shooting opportunities.
Sheehan has spent much of his career in wildlife conservation and public land management, previously serving as Director of the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources and Utah State Director for the Bureau of Land Management. In those roles, he oversaw wildlife management and the management of nearly 22.8 million acres of public lands in Utah. Sheehan also served as Acting Director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
"I'm honored to represent America's big game hunters on this council and to help ensure their voices are part of the national conservation conversation," Sheehan said. "Hunters have long been among our nation's strongest conservationists, and I look forward to working with the Administration and fellow council members to strengthen wildlife populations, improve habitat and expand access to the places we hunt."
Sheehan joined MDF as president and CEO in October 2024. A lifelong hunter and outdoorsman, he grew up in Utah hunting and fishing from an early age. He has a lifelong passion for mule deer and is now helping lead efforts to recover mule deer populations and conserve the western landscapes that mule deer and other wildlife call home.
