Eric Hung of ShellShock Protection and Pew Pew Tactical Featured on HSCF's Hunting Matters Podcast

Houston Safari Club Foundation (HSCF) welcomes firearms educator, entrepreneur, hunter and shooting industry innovator Eric Hung on an upcoming episode of the Hunting Matters podcast.

Hung is the founder and owner of ShellShock Protection, an Austin-based company focused on making certified, high-performance eye and ear protection accessible to hunters and shooters. He is also the founder and CEO of Pew Pew Tactical, one of the largest online firearms education resources, where he and his team have helped millions of new and experienced shooters develop their skills through firearm reviews, beginner's guides, training resources and educational content.

The episode is particularly timely as October is National Hearing Protection Month. Hung will discuss why hearing protection is an essential part of responsible shooting and hunting, common misconceptions about protecting hearing in the field and on the range, and what hunters and shooters should consider when selecting effective hearing protection.

During the interview, Hung will discuss the origins of Pew Pew Tactical, which began in 2016 as a personal blog. Having grown up in Los Angeles without firearms being a significant part of his life, Hung initially became deeply interested in guns and found himself answering the same questions from friends who wanted to learn more about firearms. That experience ultimately developed into a major online firearms education platform.

Hung's path to the shooting industry was unconventional. A biomedical engineer by training, he founded an online education startup after graduate school before eventually selling the company as Pew Pew Tactical grew. He will discuss how his engineering and education background influenced his approach to firearms education, product development and entrepreneurship.

The conversation will also explore Hung's move to Austin in 2020 and how living in Texas changed his access to shooting, hunting and the outdoors.

For hunters, Hung will share his experiences managing wild hogs at his shooting ranch near Bastrop, Texas. His hunting experiences include harvesting hogs using traditional and modern approaches, including night vision and thermal optics, baiting and .300 Blackout platforms. He will also discuss his favorite firearm configurations and the considerations that go into selecting practical equipment for hunting and shooting.

The episode will feature a closer look at ShellShock Protection's newest products, including the Exo Pro Elite, which was redesigned and upgraded from the ground up, as well as the Eclipse photochromic ballistic sunglasses, which automatically darken when exposed to ultraviolet light.

The discussion will address the importance of certified eye protection, ballistic-rated eyewear, photochromic technology and designing protective equipment that hunters and shooters will actually wear throughout a day in the field or on the range.

The episode will also examine the future of firearms education and the role digital media can play in helping introduce newcomers to shooting in a safe, responsible and approachable manner.
