The Houston Safari Club Foundation (HSCF) is pleased to announce that author, ranch owner, lifelong hunter, conservationist, and eighth-generation Texan Victor L. Bretting will be featured on an upcoming episode of the Hunting Matters podcast.
With a lifetime rooted in Texas hunting and outdoor traditions, Bretting has pursued more than 140 species across five continents, experiencing everything from North American big-game hunts and mountain adventures to dangerous-game safaris. While his hunting resume is extensive, Bretting says the most meaningful stories are often found beyond the harvest, in the people he has met, places he has visited, challenges he has overcome and lessons he has learned along the way.
During the Hunting Matters conversation, Bretting will discuss his experiences hunting around the world and how those adventures have shaped his perspective on conservation, wildlife management, hunting ethics and the responsibility hunters have to preserve America's outdoor heritage.
Bretting and his wife operate Bretting Texan Ranch in North Texas, where hunting is integrated with wildlife management, habitat improvement, conservation, and responsible land stewardship. The ranch also serves as a platform for mentoring young people, introducing others to the outdoors, and supporting combat veterans.
Bretting's commitment to mentorship and preserving hunting traditions will also be a focus of the episode. He will discuss the importance of introducing young people to hunting and the outdoors while teaching them the ethics, conservation principles and responsibilities that accompany those experiences.
In addition to his outdoor pursuits and ranching operation, Bretting has enjoyed a nearly 50-year career in the construction industry, where he has served in leadership roles emphasizing responsibility, perseverance, and service. He is also the author of The Man That I Would Become, a memoir exploring faith, leadership, resilience, responsibility, and legacy.
His outdoor experiences have been featured on national television, including the Sportsman Channel, Pursuit Channel, and MyOutdoorTV where he co-hosts the new series Trekin Outdoors and The B-Tex Ranch.
The upcoming Hunting Matters episode will explore Bretting's remarkable hunting journey while examining larger questions facing hunters and conservationists today, including the future of hunting in America, the role of private landowners in wildlife conservation, responsible land stewardship and the importance of passing hunting traditions to the next generation.
