Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a boat accident that occurred Sunday evening on the St. Joseph River.
At approximately 6:51 p.m., Indiana Conservation Officer Dispatch received a report from Elkhart County Dispatch regarding a boat collision that had just occurred. Upon arrival, officers determined that a boat traveling between 45 and 60 miles per hour on the right side of the river struck a stationary boat that was not under power.
The impact ejected a juvenile passenger from the stationary boat into the water. An adult occupant immediately entered the water and reached the juvenile, who was wearing a life jacket.
The operator of the moving boat left the scene before contacting 911.
Three individuals, including the juvenile, were transported to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment of injuries.
This incident remains under investigation.
Indiana Conservation Officers were assisted by Baugo Township Fire Department, Cleveland Township Fire Department, Elkhart Fire Department, Concord Township Fire Department, and the Elkhart County Sheriff's Office.
