The Michigan Department of Natural Resources and partners are calling for volunteers to help plant native trees and shrubs and clear trails on Aug. 29 at the Little Betsie Grouse Enhanced Management Site (GEMS) in Benzie County.
Lunch will be provided during the Saturday work session, which runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Little Betsie GEMS, located on 4,100 acres of state-managed land about 30 miles southwest of Traverse City, includes 2.5 miles of groomed trails, a parking lot and information kiosks. Straddling the Little Betsie River, the area is popular for hikers, birders and hunters.
The coordinates to meet are 44.54623, -85.89556. Volunteers should bring work gloves, eye protection and boots. The event will take place rain or shine.
