Arkansas State Parks welcomed community members, local leaders and partners to Lake Chicot State Park today to celebrate the completion of significant improvements designed to enhance the visitor experience while preserving one of Arkansas' premier outdoor destinations.
Guests explored the park during a community open house showcasing newly completed renovations, including a modernized campground, upgraded recreational amenities and improved visitor facilities. The event provided an opportunity for visitors to meet park staff, tour the improvements and learn about the continued investment in Arkansas' state parks.
The completed improvements include 42 renovated RV campsites, five new walk-in campsites, a new bathhouse, improved grading and drainage throughout the campground, newly paved roadways, the completion of the paved Delta Woodlands Trail, a renovated RV dump station and enhanced accessibility throughout the park.
Additional enhancements include a refurbished playground with new equipment and improved pedestrian access, a new ADA-compliant railing on the accessible boat dock, a new fish cleaning station, updated cabins with new siding and exterior paint, marina improvements, repairs to cabin fireplaces and a new HVAC system in the original campground bathhouse.
"Today's open house was about more than showcasing new facilities—it was about welcoming Arkansans back to experience their state park," said Shea Lewis, Secretary of the Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism. "Lake Chicot has long been a place where families gather, anglers cast a line or enjoy taking a kayak float through the park's breathtaking cypress grove, Lake Chicot offers experiences you can't find anywhere else. These improvements reflect our commitment to preserving those experiences while ensuring our parks continue to meet the needs of today's visitors and future generations. Lake Chicot State Park, located on Arkansas' largest natural lake, continues to offer visitors opportunities for camping, fishing, boating, hiking, wildlife viewing and outdoor recreation in the heart of the Mississippi Delta.
