Second annual 820 Day invites Arizonans to celebrate the state's remarkable wildlife and help fund conservation efforts across Arizona.
Wildlife for Tomorrow, the official nonprofit of the Arizona Game and Fish Department, announced the return of 820 Day™ - Arizona's statewide day of giving for wildlife, on August 20.
Now in its second year, 820 Day celebrates the approximately 820 species of wildlife found throughout Arizona and gives residents, businesses and conservation supporters a direct way to help protect the wildlife and wild places that make the state extraordinary.
From desert tortoises and pronghorn to native trout, bald eagles and hundreds of other known species, Arizona is home to some of the most diverse wildlife in the country. Maintaining that diversity requires continued investment in habitat restoration, wildlife research, conservation education and other projects that benefit species throughout the state.
"820 Day gives every Arizonan an opportunity to be part of wildlife conservation," said Jim Goughnour, president of Wildlife for Tomorrow. "A donation does not have to be large to make a difference. When people across the state come together around a shared commitment to wildlife, those individual contributions can create a meaningful conservation impact."
On August 20, supporters are encouraged to make an 820-inspired donation, such as $8.20, $82 or $820. Donations will support Wildlife for Tomorrow's work to expand conservation impact through public support, community engagement and philanthropy.
Funds raised will advance priority needs including habitat improvements, wildlife management initiatives, outdoor education, species conservation and projects conducted in partnership with the Arizona Game and Fish Department.
Here's how YOU can get involved:
- Make an 820-inspired donation of $8.20, $82, $820 or another meaningful amount.
- Share a favorite Arizona wildlife photo or conservation story using #AZ820Day.
- Encourage friends, family members and coworkers to support Arizona's wildlife.
- Visit participating businesses that are contributing a portion of sales or inviting customers to round up their purchases.
- Learn more about Arizona wildlife and the conservation work needed to safeguard it.
"Arizona's wildlife belongs to all of us, and its future depends on all of us," said Goughnour. "820 Day is a celebration, but it is also a reminder that conserving wildlife requires sustained support from the people who value it."
Businesses and community organizations may also participate by hosting fundraising promotions, matching customer or employee donations, donating a percentage of August 20 sales or helping share the 820 Day message.
