SKOWHEGAN, Maine – A Skowhegan man drowned while boating on the Kennebec River Saturday morning.
Jakub Prokop, age 21 of Skowhegan, was a passenger on a 2006 16-foot, 40 horsepower Lund boat that was traveling on the Kennebec upriver of the Hinkley Boat Launch in Skowhegan at approximately 11:20 yesterday morning when he was thrown from the boat and subsequently drowned in the river. Prokop was not wearing a lifejacket.
The incident remains under investigation. The Maine Warden Service was assisted at the scene by the Skowhegan Fire Department, the Skowhegan Police Department, the Fairfield Fire Department, the Fairfield Police Department, Redington ambulance and Delta Ambulance.
