BOZEMAN – A variety of events are coming up at Missouri Headwaters and Buffalo Jump state parks.
Whether you enjoy learning about history or going outside to try something new, these free events have something for everyone.
The following events have been scheduled at Missouri Headwaters State Park.
- July 24, 5 p.m. – Junior Ranger Program: Reptiles – Learn about our scaley friends and what makes them so important to life around the park. After the program, you'll receive a Junior Ranger badge. Meet at the park office.
- July 25, 9 a.m. – Lewis & Clark Headwaters Arrival Breakfast – Missouri Headwaters State Park will host its annual breakfast remembering Lewis and Clark's arrival in July of 1805 to the headwaters of the Missouri River. This event will include a breakfast provided by The Shoppe in Three Forks, followed by a talk by guest speaker John Phillips who will present From the Three Forks to Lemhi Pass. This will be in the park's picnic area.
- July 31, 10 a.m. – Volunteer Weed Pull – Join us as we work to keep Missouri Headwaters State Park looking great and safe for bats! We'll be pulling noxious weeds, including burdock, a weed that creates Velcro-like burs that trap and often kill bats. Bring work gloves, water and a snack, and meet us at the picnic area.
An event is also scheduled at Madison Buffalo Jump State Park.
- Sept. 5, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. – Kite Festival at Madison Buffalo Jump State Park – Join us for a fun-filled day of making and flying kites. We'll have kite kits for sale, but feel free to bring your own kite. There's a lot to enjoy at this event: Native American art vendors, flint knapping demonstrations, a food truck by Vintage Nana's Indian Tacos, a drum circle by Many Hands Light Work at 12 p.m., a bison program by Billy Maxwell, and traditional Native American games.
