Michigan Green Communities Challenge Announces 2025 Winners

Sixty-eight local governments across Michigan have been recognized for their sustainability efforts and environmental leadership with their participation in the Michigan Green Communities Challenge. This year's participants included fifty cities, eight townships, eight counties and two villages. These certifications reflect their leadership in areas such as energy efficiency, climate resilience, recycling, mobility and environmental stewardship. For the 2025 challenge, four communities achieved Bronze certification, fifteen achieved Silver certification, forty-seven achieved Gold certification, and two achieved Platinum certification.

Bronze: Brighton, Ferrysburg, Monroe County, Mt. Pleasant

Silver: Bay City, Charlotte, Clawson, Fennville, Grandville, Inkster, Kentwood, Village of Mackinaw City, Madison Heights, Village of Milford, Plymouth, River Rouge, Saugatuck Township, St. Joseph, Warren

Gold: Battle Creek, Berkley, Big Rapids, Birmingham, Canton Township, Clare, Dearborn, Delhi Charter Township, Detroit, East Grand Rapids, East Lansing, Eastpointe, Ferndale, Grandville, Grand Haven, Grosse Pointe Park, Hancock, Holland, Houghton, Ingham County, Kalamazoo County, Kalamazoo, Lansing, Livonia, Macomb County, Marquette, Marquette County, Meridian Charter Township, Northville, Novi, Oakland County, Orion Charter Township, Petoskey, Pittsfield Charter Township, Portage, Rockford, Royal Oak, Township of Scio, Southfield, Sterling Heights, Tecumseh, Traverse City, Troy, Washtenaw County, Wayne County, West Bloomfield Charter Township, Ypsilanti
