The Montana State Parks and Recreation Board will meet Tuesday, June 16, at 2 p.m., at the FWP Region 5 Office in Billings and virtually via Zoom.
The board will take action on the proposed seasonal closures for Fort Owen State Park, Pictograph State Park and Chief Plenty Coups State Park. The closures would reduce the risk of vandalism during the off-season when there is no staff presence, which would ensure the rules protect property and public resources. Visitors would not be able to use Fort Owen State Park year-round, but the park would be open from March 1 to Oct. 31. Visitors would be able to use Pictograph and Chief Plenty Coups state parks year-round except for Mondays and Tuesdays during the off-season, which are less popular visitor days.
Public comments will be accepted through June 11 with final potential action at the June 16 meeting. For information on how to submit a comment, go to fwp.mt.gov/aboutfwp/parksandrecreationboard/june-2026-meeting.
A public comment opportunity will be offered during the meeting. In-person comments can be made at the meeting venue or at any FWP Regional Office throughout the state. Comments can also be made during the meeting virtually via Zoom. If you wish to comment via Zoom, you must register to comment. Registration for Zoom comment will open on June 1 and close at noon on June 15.
