The South Carolina Waterfowl Association's flagship summer camp program, Camp Woodie, officially kicked off preparations for Summer 2026 this week as staff members arrived at the SCWA Wildlife Education Center in Pinewood, SC for an intensive two-week training program focused on camper safety, leadership development, and delivering the highest quality camp experience to date.
This year's training marks the launch of a newly restructured staffing model designed to strengthen program delivery and enhance the overall camp environment for campers and families.
Camp Woodie's updated structure includes the addition of Camp Care Specialists and Lead Facilitators. These positions were created to provide more focused camper support, elevated activity instruction, and stronger mentorship for campers and staff throughout the summer.

"Our goal every year is to improve the Camp Woodie experience, and this restructuring allows us to be more intentional than ever before about camper care and program quality," said Education Programs Director Jami Lisenby. "We've built a team and a system that allows staff to better support campers while continuing to provide the exciting outdoor experiences families have come to expect from Camp Woodie."
Throughout the two-week training period, staff will complete certifications, safety instruction, emergency preparedness exercises, leadership development workshops, team-building activities, and hands-on training in Camp Woodie's outdoor programming areas including shooting sports, archery, fishing, climbing activities, waterfront recreation, and ATV safety education.
Camp Woodie, accredited by the American Camp Association, serves youth ages 7–16 and focuses on conservation education, outdoor skills, leadership development, and introducing campers to South Carolina's outdoor heritage through hands-on experiences.
"Summer at Camp Woodie is about much more than just camp activities," said SCWA COO Lou Tocci. "We help young people develop a passion for the outdoors and conservation. We're excited to welcome campers back for what we believe will be our best summer yet."
Summer 2026 sessions begin later this month at the SCWA Wildlife Education Center in Pinewood, South Carolina. Limited camper spots remain available for select weeks.
