Trail Maintenance Training to be Held at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL – After the long, muddy winter, state parks staff are gearing up for trail repairs. On April 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks will offer a trail maintenance training day for members of the public interested in volunteering at state parks in the Flathead Valley.

Participants will learn how to maintain and improve trails and then put those skills to use in Flathead Lake State Park and Lone Pine State Park. Training will be provided by staff from Lone Pine State Park, Flathead Lake State Park and the Montana Conservation Corps.

Snacks, water and lunch will be provided, along with all the required tools. Please wear sturdy, close-toed shoes, long pants and weather-appropriate clothing. Participants will meet at the picnic shelter at Lone Pine State Park.

Flathead Lake State Park consists of six unique park units located around Flathead Lake, the largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi. The park units on the east side are Wayfarers, Yellow Bay and Finley Point and the west side units are West Shore, Big Arm and Wild Horse Island. In addition to boating, swimming and fishing, each park unit offers unique experiences including camping, rental picnic shelters, group camping, hiking, sightseeing, picnicking and wildlife viewing opportunities.

Lone Pine State Park is 5 miles southwest of Kalispell. The park features 7.5 miles of trails great for hiking, mountain biking, snowshoeing and horseback riding.
