By participating in Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks' Hunter Landowner Stewardship Program (HLSP), Lucas Townsend, of Montana, won a Weatherby Vanguard Black Hills rifle, and BG, of Montana, won a VIAM Outdoors Madison Tipi.

HLSP is an education program focused on educating hunters on safety, ethics, minimizing impacts to private lands and tips for being a good steward on both private and public lands. The program is part of FWP's effort to help improve hunter/landowner relationships. HLSP participants watch a series of videos and then take a test.

When a hunter completes the test, he or she can print a certificate of completion and have the program attached to their FWP licensing account.

"Some of the highest quality hunting we have as Montanans occurs on private lands," said rifle-winner Townsend. "It's absolutely imperative that we do our best to become good neighbors and even better stewards of this fantastic resource."

This year 2,044 hunters participated in the program. Those who passed the test got three months of an onX Hunt Elite Membership and were entered into a raffle for the rifle and tipi.

"I am a retired farmer who dealt with hunters and hunted myself for 40 years, so I can see both sides" tipi winner BG said. "A hunter has to build a relationship with the landowner, long before hunting season, not at 6 a.m. opening day, then keep that relationship going all year around"

The program is part of FWP's effort to help improve hunter/landowner relationships. For more information on this campaign, visit the FWP website.
