DNR Seeks Public Input on Hayes State Park Management Plan via Online Survey, Available Through April 3

To help ensure W.J. Hayes State Park continues to meet the needs of visitors and the community, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources is asking for public input on a new general management plan for this state park gem in southern Michigan.

Visitors, community members, stakeholders and others interested in sharing their opinions, ideas and experiences are encouraged to participate in an online survey, available through April 3.

Links to both the online survey and the project website are available at Michigan.gov/Hayes.

The DNR uses general management plans to define a long-range planning and management strategy that protects a park's natural and cultural resources, while also addressing recreation and educational needs and opportunities.

"The public's input is critical to the development of the draft general management plan, which will be informed by the valuable insights gathered during the public input process," said Debbie Jensen, DNR park management plan administrator. "The DNR will also host a public meeting this summer, providing opportunities for people to review and provide comments on the new draft plan."

W.J. Hayes State Park, one of Michigan's oldest state parks, is set along Wamplers and Round lakes in the scenic Irish Hills, about an hour's drive south of Lansing. This region is celebrated for its lush, rolling landscapes and vibrant natural beauty. With modern camping, tiny houses, mini cabins, trails, picnic areas and premium lake access – including a buoyed swimming area, two boating access sites and a fishing pier – the park serves as a premier destination for locals and tourists, particularly during the summer season.
