Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks has issued a decision notice to remove and rebuild the firing line shelter at the Whittecar Rifle & Pistol Range.
FWP received 17 public comments in support of the proposed project during the public comment period from 12/08/2025 to 01/08/2026.
FWP is also proposing an updated lease agreement with the Club. The current leasing and sub-leasing structure is inadequate for efficient communication and management of the shooting range. The proposed lease update would simplify communications between FWP and the Club. There would not be significant changes to the daily operations of the shooting range.
Based on the environmental review provided in the Draft EA, and in accordance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, and policies, FWP determined the proposed action (Alternative 2), will not have significant adverse impacts on the human environment associated with the proposed action and constitutes a reasonable and appropriate strategy to achieve identified objectives. Therefore, preparation of an EIS is unnecessary. FWP hereby adopts the Draft EA as final and approves the Alternative 2, the proposed action.
