The USA Bass team is headed to Mexico’s famed Lake Cuchillo for a Pan American showdown. The 2025 Pan American Bass Championship will include anglers from USA, Canada, Turtle Island, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Colombia, Mexico and a friendly event with anglers from South Africa. USA Bass is part of USAngling, the 501c3 non-profit organization responsible for fielding international angling teams for America.
The USA Bass team includes: Scott Martin, Scott Canterbury, Trey McKinney, JT Thompkins, Joey Cifuentes, Andrew Upshaw, Joshua Weaver, Matt Pangrac, Mark Schlarb and Dale Black. The 2024 USA Bass Pan American Team won Gold in Canada on the Saint John River in New Brunswick. Lake Cuchillo, pronounced: Coo-Chee-Yoh, is part of El Cuchillo State Park. The lake is appx. 18,000 to 23,000 acres at normal pool. The lake is being managed by the government as CATCH & RELEASE, with no commercial fishing or netting allowed.
“We are excited about this team and their commitment to USA Bass,” says Mark Schlarb, President of USAngling. “Our team is set to compete against the largest Pan American Bass Fishing group ever assembled. We are looking to bring home another Pan Am Gold medal.”
USA Bass Team member Trey McKinney shared his thoughts on fishing this year’s Pan Am. “It is an honor and blessing to be able to represent our entire country.” McKinney is part of a mix of veterans and rising stars in the bass fishing world. They will be fishing for some big bags of Mexican bass at the event.
