The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is seeking public input on development of a new general management for Aloha State Park in Cheboygan County.

Visitors, community members, stakeholders and others interested in sharing their opinions and ideas are encouraged to participate in an online survey, available through Friday, March 4. Connect to both the online survey and the park's management planning page from Michigan.gov/Aloha.

General management plans are used to define a long-range planning and management strategy that protects a state park’s resources while addressing recreation and education needs and opportunities.

"Public input is a crucial component of the planning process, and this survey is just one of several ways the public and stakeholders can get involved and help shape the plan," said Debbie Jensen, DNR park management plan administrator. "The DNR will also host a public open house this summer, providing an additional opportunity for people to review and comment on the draft plan."

Aloha State Park is located on the shores of Mullett Lake. The park is home to a modern campground, fishing and paddling opportunities, a boating access site and boat basin where registered campers can leave their boats during their stay. The park also provides access to the North Eastern State Trail, a 70-mile rail-trail between Alpena and Cheboygan, and the central point for the Inland Waterway.

Currently, the park is undergoing an enhancement project that includes the replacement of sewer and water lines and the addition of full hook-up sites in the south campground. The campground will be closed through at least June 23.
