Learn tips and tricks for springtime fishing with soft plastic jerkbaits
Careco debuts the latest episode of the Bass Pro Shops Fisherman’s Handbook. For more than 18 years, this nationally televised and streamed program has been dedicated to educating anglers on all things fishing, and helping them to catch more fish. The latest episode, “Springtime Fishing With Soft Plastic Jerkbaits,” continues that mission by offering insight into this technique, and breaking down the gear you need for success.
“Soft plastic jerkbaits come in many different styles, colors, shapes, and sizes…but they’ll flat out catch fish when the conditions are right,” said Wade Middleton, host and President of Careco. “This is an extremely insightful and educational episode that will greatly benefit anglers when the spring months come around where we show the misses as well as the fish catches.”
On this particular trip, Wade and crew travel to Lake Athens in East Texas during the late spring. Most of the fish are up shallow, as they are either spawning or in the post-spawn phase. This means that those fish are either protecting their spawning area and fry, or feeding up on baitfish in preparation for the summer months.
Wade is able to put together a strong pattern working a soft plastic jerkbait around the edges of docks and near shallow vegetation. Throughout this show, he will break down the hooks, line, baits, rods, reels, and more that will help you to have success fishing a soft plastic jerkbait!
