A Little Housekeeping

Mar 20, 2025

Since we have officially made it to Spring, now is a good time for a little housekeeping … on our part.

New Deadline
For 2025 we have rolled back our deadline for submitting press releases. For the Tuesday through Friday wires the deadline is now 4:30pm ET to run in the following day’s editions. The deadline for Monday’s editions is now 2:00pm ET on Sunday. We encourage companies and marketing agencies to submit releases as early in the day as possible.

Press Release Formatting
Press releases come to us in many forms, some of which are simply, unusable. As a reminder, we require press releases to be sent to us in either a Word or Pages document, and/or in the body of the email itself. Definitely do NOT send us PDFs.

We cannot extract images embedded in the body of your press release. Please include them as attached files (JPGs please) and have them sized for web use, not billboards.

Finally, we beg you: STOP PUTTING YOUR HEADLINES IN ALL-CAPS. It may make it look more important but they are harder to read and you are more likely in miss your own typo or experience one of ours when we have to retype the headline. Ask me how I know.

State Wildlife Agencies
If you are in the communications office for a state wildlife agency and are sending us your releases, please be sure to update the email you use for submissions.

PR@TheOutdoorWire.com is the only email to use for submitting a press release to any of our wires. This goes to all our editors. If you are using an older email address – and there are a few – you are not reaching all our editors. Please update your media distribution list to include this correct email address. You can remove the others.

The Supplier Wire
If you are at a manufacturing company, and work in engineering, production or purchasing, you may want to make sure you’re subscribed to The Supplier Wire. The Supplier Wire launched last year, in cooperation with the National Shooting Sports Foundation, in order to better support the exhibiting companies in the SHOT Show Supplier Showcase.

Following this year’s SHOT, Showcase exhibitors received a corporate membership to The Supplier Wire. With over 600 exhibitors in 2025 we hope to greatly expand the amount of news we publish from Showcase companies. News that will hopefully assist you in finding a new vendor or manufacturing partner.

The Supplier Wire is published on the first Friday of the Month, except during January when we publish weekly due to the increased activity around SHOT Show. The next issue will publish on Apr. 4, followed by May 2, Jun. 6, Jul. 11, Aug. 1, Sept. 5, Oct. 3, Nov. 7, and Dec. 5.

NRA Show in Atlanta
It’s about that time, again. The NRA Show – aka the NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits – will take place April 24 -27 in Atlanta. And, as usual, the Outdoor Wire Digital Network will be on hand covering the show. Dan Zimmerman, Jim Shepherd and I will be there. Besides the outcome of the Board of Directors election, and associated NRA2.0 drama, we’ll be looking for new and unique products.

If you’re planning on rolling out a new product at the NRA Show, or just want to give us a preview of something coming later in the year, be sure to reach out to us to schedule a visit during the show.

Lever Gun Chronicles
Finally, if you are not a subscriber to The Hunting Wire, you’ve probably missed the new lever-action series Editor Jay Pinsky launched. The Lever Gun Chronicles, which is sponsored by GunBroker.com, is an in-depth exploration of lever-action rifles and delves into their storied past, enduring functionality, and resurgence in modern hunting and shooting. If you’re a fan of the lever gun then you will want to check out this series. You can read the first two installments – The Canyon Lions of Arizona and The Lady of Lever Guns, Kristin Alberts – now. The next installment, Cowboy Action Shooting and the Lever Action Rifle, will appear this coming Monday, with plenty more to follow.

You can subscribe here to receive The Hunting Wire in your inbox every Monday.
