CLOSURES

Beginning July 1, 2014 the Coronado National Forest, Sierra Vista Ranger District, will close Ash and Hunter Canyons to all recreational shooting. According to officials, the emergency closure is being implemented due to "excessive resource damage to trees and other vegetation in both canyons and large amounts of trash shells and lead being deposited in trees and on the ground." The closure order will remain in effect until "July 2014 or until it is rescinded."

The Colorado Division of Wildlife has issued an immediate closure to the take of live crayfish from the waters in the Yampa River basin. The order comes following the discovery of rusty crayfish (Orconectes rusticus) in the headwaters of the Yampa River. Rusty crayfish are an aggressive crayfish native to the Ohio River basin in the upper Midwest but human activity has moved them throughout the northeast and into southern Canada. The discovery is the first in Colorado.
