The Outdoor Pressroom Returns to the Web

The Outdoor Pressroom, the long-running blog and news service designed and written primarily for outdoor writers, communicators and members of the outdoor industry, has resumed its presence on the web after more than a three-year absence.

Site originator and editor J.R. Absher announced this week his decision to bring back the popular site came after he significantly reduced many of his professional writing and editing duties in recent months, including his retirement as editor of The Archery Wire and The Birding Wire digital news services in late 2017.

Absher first launched The Outdoor Pressroom in August 1999, eons ago in terms of modern web standards. It became a favorite of hundreds of his fellow outdoor writers, known for its timely and often-offbeat stories about the outdoors, wildlife, hunting, firearms and public land and well as for its snappy (some called them snarky) headlines and story teasers.

“Basically, I decided to resurrect OPR in an effort to maintain my sanity as well as stay in touch with old friends and writing and industry associates — without the need to (God forbid) resort to social media,” Absher said. “Call me old-school, if you’d like, but I won’t do Facebook, and I don’t believe someone’s posts on Twitter are quote-worthy.”

The Outdoor Pressroom 2018 version may be viewed at www.theoutdoorpressroom.com. Please note this is an all-new web address, and different than the one held by the site from 1999 to 2015.

As with the original Outdoor Pressroom web version, Absher said it would continue to be a work-in-progress and continually evolving in design and scope. He also plans to create an app for the use of mobile devices.
