MI DNR offers waterfowl hunting clinic Sept. 2 in Cadillac

There is still space available in the introductory waterfowl hunting clinics the Michigan Department of Natural Resources will offer in Cadillac on Saturday, Sept. 2, as part of its Outdoor Skills Academy.

Kenny Daggs and Joe Duncan of Daggs Custom Calls, Matt "Master Blaster" Peterson of Flight Control Guide Service, and Outdoor Skills Academy pro-staff will lead this "A to Z" class on how to hunt waterfowl. The clinic will cover everything new waterfowl hunters need to know to get started, including how to find a location, scouting, calling and gear. Instructors will demonstrate how to set up a waterfowl hunting site and decoys, calling and other techniques. All students will leave with firsthand experience that will increase their chances of success this upcoming waterfowl season.

The class will start at the Carl T. Johnson Hunting and Fishing Center in Cadillac at 10 a.m. and will run four to five hours. Participants will start the day in the classroom and then move to the hiking trails around the center, which are accessible for those with disabilities and easy to walk. Once outside, instructors will demonstrate setting up a hunting site and decoys, calling and other waterfowl hunting techniques.

"All students will leave with the first-hand experience that will increase your chances this upcoming waterfowl season," said Ed Shaw, park interpreter at the Carl T. Johnson Hunting and Fishing Center.

The cost for this class is $35 and includes a brand-new Daggs Custom Calls duck call and lunch. Participation is limited to 30.

Registration is required prior to the class. Register online at the Michigan eStore.
