S3DA's 'Team On-Point' Participates in Cabela's Adventure Days

Louisville, KY - S3DA's Team On-Point and the Cabela's Outpost in Augusta, Georgia, partnered to host a Family Adventure Day on June 10th, 2017. Team On-Point took the lead on recruiting volunteers and other organizations known to promote outdoor activities. Families were encouraged to bring their children to visit the hunting falcons, discuss Georgia game regulations with state DNR officers, meet local radio celebrities, and learn about turkey habitat from a local chapter of the National Wildlife Turkey Federation, cook s'mores, learn to shoot BB guns and archery.

"I am extremely proud to see a team of young archers come together on a Saturday afternoon to give back to the community and support an S3DA sponsor while recruiting new kids for their team," said Jake Martin. "I hope that S3DA teams across the country are reaching out to Scholastic 3-D Archery sponsors and showing their gratitude."

Coach Jake Martin along with Coaches Trip Penn and Drew Triplett require their S3DA archers to have a certain amount of volunteer hours per year. This event was just one way the archers were able to receive volunteer hours and in the mean time continue to get themselves more involved in the community, all the while introducing archery to other kids.

Team On-Point managed the SAFE archery inflatable booth, which provided a place for kids and adults to try shooting a recurve bow, many of them for the 1st time. Not to waste any time, Team On-Point also set up several 3-D targets and put on an exhibition for patrons of the event. This provided the kids an opportunity to shoot in front of strangers while they got some last minute practice in before 3-D Nationals.

Started in December 2012 by the Scholastic Archery Association, S3DA has grown exponentially as a next step program to follow introductory programs offered as part of 4-H or the National Archery in Schools Program. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving
thousands of young archers, grades 3–12.
