Chevron Presents 23rd Annual CCA Louisiana STAR

100 Tagged Redfish Released This Year!

The CCA Louisiana Statewide Tournament and Angler's Rodeo (STAR), presented by Chevron, begins its 23rd year of competition on Saturday, May 27. It is one of the largest and richest saltwater fishing tournaments in the country, offering over $500,000 in prizes. The tournament spans the entire Louisiana coast and is open to anglers of every age. The tournament lasts 101 days and runs through Labor Day, Monday, September 4, 2017.

STAR boasts over 25 divisions for all types of anglers – whether young or old, male or female, fish inshore or offshore: STAR has a division for you.

In STAR's signature Tagged Redfish Division, sponsored by the Super Chevy Dealers of Acadiana, Baton Rouge and New Orleans, there will be 100 tagged redfish released along the Louisiana coast instead of the fifty that have been tagged in previous tournaments! The first STAR entrant to catch a tagged redfish wins a new Chevy Silverado. The second STAR entrant to catch a tagged redfish will win a new Chevy Colorado. The next eight tagged redfish caught by registered entrants win a 21' Nautic Star, Mercury 4-stroke and McClain trailer package.

"The STAR Committee decided to double down this year with 100 tagged redfish and give anglers even more chances to win," said Snoop Roth, STAR Committee Chairman.

The Tagged Redfish Division will also have the Louisiana Sportsman Magazine bonus prize where the first registered angler to catch a tagged redfish who is also a current Louisiana Sportsman Magazine subscriber will get an extra $10,000 in cash in addition to their truck or boat prize. And don't forget, there are also 50 tagged trout worth some great prizes from the Super Chevy Dealers as well.

The Bank Fishing Division returns for its second year where the heaviest speckled trout caught from the shore wins a boat, motor and trailer package. The Ladies' Division will have winners recognized in both the East and West regions thanks to Atchafalaya Crawfish Processing and the Kayak Division will have an overall winner prize of a 14 ft Hobie Pro Angler and the next three heaviest speckled trout caught from a kayak will win a Hobie Quest.

The most competitive division, the Nautic Star Speckled Trout Division still offers STAR anglers a chance to win one boat package in four zones: east, southeast, southwest and west. The heaviest trout in each of these divisions wins a Nautic Star bay boat, Mercury Outboards and Mike Gerald's McClain trailer package. 2nd and 3rd place finishers in each zone take home $2,500 and $1,000.

The Whitney Bank Offshore Divisions still have great prizes up for grabs including $5,000 tackle packages for the heaviest Mangrove Snapper (sponsored by Otto Candies LLC), Dorado, Lemonfish (sponsored by K2 Coolers) and Red Snapper.

The Youth Division sponsored by Academy Sports + Outdoors allows kids, 17 and under, to fish the tournament for free with their current CCA membership. They can register a speckled trout or flounder, at participating weigh stations or by e-mail for instant entry, to be entered into a drawing for one of four 14' boat, motor and trailer packages donated by Redmond Marine and Mercury Outboards.

"There are tons of prizes up for grabs and plenty of ways to win them," said Rad Trascher, STAR Tournament Director. "But you have to be entered to win!"
