North Carolina: Family Fishing Fiesta April 8 at Jordan Lake State Park
APEX, N.C.– The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission and Jordan Lake State Park are hosting a free fishing event on April 8 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the White Oak Recreation Area, located on White Oak Beach Rd., in Chatham County.

The Family Fishing Fiesta will feature more than a dozen hands-on activities where participants can fish, learn to filet fish and taste-test fish at the grill. Fishing games and activities include:
•Backyard Bass station where families can develop their casting skills.
•Kayak fishing demonstration with Cabela's.
•Choosing Your Lure station with the NCSU Student Fisheries Society.

Students can chat with conservation and law enforcement professionals about careers in natural resources. Loaner fishing rods and bait will be available to anyone who wants to go fishing

A raffle to win prizes, along with musical entertainment, is scheduled for 2 p.m. Anglers 12 and older can enter to win a lifetime freshwater fishing license, a composting bin or a three-year subscription to the Wildlife Commission's award-winning magazine, Wildlife in North Carolina. Youth 11 and younger who participate in the scavenger hunt will receive a free tackle box and a chance to enter the youth drawing to win prizes such as fishing poles and life jackets.

The event is co-sponsored by the American Fisheries Society and Friends of State Parks.

Partners include: The Hispanic Connection, Immersion Spanish Language Academy, Cabela's, Coast Guard Auxiliary, Haw River Assembly, The River Guardian Foundation, Clean Jordan Lake, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

"The Wildlife Commission and Jordan Lake State Park invite families to a free, fun-filled and educational day for the public," said CC King, an educator with the Commission. "Rain or shine, we will fish and have fun.

"The diversity of anglers at last year's Fishing Fiesta made it a unique family event," King said. "Everyone is welcome and the whole family can fish free for the day, buy lunch from one of the food trucks or bring a picnic lunch to enjoy in the large pavilion."
