Sampo Swivels, Donmar Tackle Sold to Rome Specialty Company

The Rome Specialty Company – owner of ROSCO Terminal Tackle – has acquired the assets of Sampo and Donnmar Enterprises.

Sampo's ball bearing swivel product lines and Donnmar's pliers and terminal tackle will now be produced at ROSCO's manufacturing facility in Rome, New Jersey.

The acquisition marks a milestone for the 90-year-old Rome Specialty Company as from 1957 until 1996 it operated Sampo as a division of the business. For the last 20 years it has been run as a separate entity by Brian Butts.

Jack Butts, President and owner of the combined businesses, which will be called Rome Specialty Company, said that the acquisition will create efficiencies in the manufacturing process and dramatically lower the price of Sampo and Donnmar products over time.

"While Sampo swivels and Donnmar pliers continue to be the best American-made products on the market, their pricing also made them the most expensive. By bringing the cost down we hope to make them much more competitive."

Butts added that an increased marketing effort is currently under way to 'help bring the brands into the 21st century'. New websites are under construction and an advertising campaign is being planned.

The acquisition will not result in any redundancies with a number of key employees making the transition to the Rome Specialty Company and the others retiring.
