Jim Wiltinger Named Whitetails Unlimited's Field Director of the Year

Whitetails Unlimited has named Jim Wiltinger of Genoa, Wisconsin, its Field Director of the Year for fiscal year 2015-16. This is the second year in a row Wiltinger has won the top honor for WTU Field Directors. Wiltinger, who conducts events for WTU in western Wisconsin and Minnesota, was honored based on chapter performance, service to local chapters, and internal performance benchmarks.

"Jim is an outstanding representative for Whitetails Unlimited, always exceeding expectations, doing an outstanding job representing Whitetails Unlimited, and he really cares about the members and WTU chapters in his territory," said Dave Hawkey, vice president of field operations. "Jim is always looking for new ways to help his local chapters coordinate their conservation efforts, and we're always amazed at how much he gets done."

Wiltinger is an accomplished hunter, and in the summer he can often be found pounding the water of northern Wisconsin in search of trophy muskies. "I'm really happy, being able to win this award two years in a row," said Wiltinger. "Our entire crew of Field Directors works really hard, and is made up of overachievers. We're pretty competitive, but I can honestly say that all of us work together to make Whitetails Unlimited a better organization. However, the real credit belongs with all the great volunteers and WTU chapters I work with. They all really deserve the credit."

Hawkey said that Wiltinger nudged out Ohio's Brandon Showen, followed by Missouri's Dan Vogt in third place, and Wisconsin's Jamie Merckx in fourth place. The Field Directors are scored in a matrix that takes into account a number of performance standards that encompass all parts of their complex job.

Whitetails Unlimited raises funds at banquets and events to be used for education, habitat conservation, and programs to preserve the hunting tradition. Local chapter involvement is essential for Whitetails Unlimited. Anyone interested in starting a local chapter or participating in an event can call WTU national headquarters at 800-274-5471.
