NOAA Proclaims Endangered Species Day for Greater Atlantic Offices May 15

Endangered Species Day is a national day to learn about these species and ways to help them. Always held on the third Friday in May, Endangered Species Day is on May 15 this year.

NOAA Fisheries Service's Greater Atlantic Regional Fisheries Office hosts and participates in Endangered Species Day events throughout May and into June.

Endangered Species Day at Bangor Public Library
Saturday, May 2, 11am-1pm
Bangor, ME
Staff from NOAA Fisheries Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Penobscot River Restoration Trust and the Endangered Species Coalition will provide a variety of family-oriented activities and art projects to highlight the recovery of endangered species in Maine. Children's activities will include endangered species crafts and a salmon migration game. This event is one of many that will be occurring in downtown Bangor as a part of Kid Central Fest 2015. Admission is free and open to the public.

The New England Right Whale Festival

New England Aquarium, Boston, MA
Did you know that there are less than 550 right whales left in the North Atlantic? Did you also know that there are a variety of efforts taking place in our backyard to protect this species? Come to the 2nd Annual New England Right Whale Festival to celebrate the work being done to save North Atlantic right whales from extinction! Hosted by the New England Aquarium, the public is invited to learn about this endangered species from the people who know them best. Find out why whale poop is a goldmine, how to match a right whale to a catalogued individual, and what the biggest threats to the population are. There will also be opportunities to take part in family-friendly activities and games!
