SCI Endows Scholarship Fund in Memory of Don McMillan at the Hamline University School of Law

Tucson, AZ - Joseph Hosmer, President Safari Club International (SCI) Foundation announced that SCI Foundation, the Minnesota Chapter of Safari Club International (SCI), and the Trustees of The Hamline University of Minnesota recently entered into an agreement to establish The Safari Club International Endowed Scholarship in memory of Don McMillan as an endowed fund to benefit the Hamline University School of Law.

This scholarship fund will assist Hamline School of Law in providing tuition scholarships in memory of Don McMillan to one or more second or third year law school students who have demonstrated interest in hunting and fishing, supporting the use of hunting as a tool for sustainable wildlife management and conservation, and preserving hunters' rights. This "Hunter/Conservation Advocacy" scholarship is the first of its kind in the state of Minnesota and will lead to more environmental lawyers that will protect the future of wildlife through sustainable use.

The scholarship is named in memory of Don McMillan, a dentist by profession, who was an avid big game hunter and fisherman and a tireless advocate for hunting, fishing and conservation. McMillan is remembered for his decades of volunteer leadership with Safari Club International in Minnesota and around the world. Don McMillan was the Minnesota Chapter President from 1980 to 1982 and President of Safari Club International from 1984-1986. McMillan played key roles in developing the group's government affairs and political action committees. He was always available to advance the causes of wildlife conservation and preserving hunting rights, and played a key role in passage of Minnesota's Constitutional Legacy Amendment in 2008.

The Fund has been created by contributions from the Minnesota Chapter of SCI, members of Safari Club International, and the family and friends of Don McMillan. Any additional gifts from any donor appropriately designated to this Fund, including estate gifts, shall be added to the principal balance. Further donations to the scholarship can be made to SCI Foundation with a note that it be dedicated to the Don McMillan Scholarship Fund.
