Trey Martin Named Deputy Secretary of Vermont Agency of Natural Resources

MONTPELIER - ANR Secretary Deb Markowitz has announced that Trey Martin will become the new Deputy Secretary of the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources. Martin will replace Justin Johnson, who leaves the Agency in January to become Governor Shumlin's Secretary of Administration. Martin is set to start on January 2, 2015.

Martin, who currently serves as Senior Counsel for Government Affairs for the Agency's Department of Environmental Conservation, has been with the ANR since 2012. In that role he has worked extensively on legislative and policy initiatives for the department, as well as serving as a departmental liaison to the legislature.

"I am thrilled to have Trey in this new role," said ANR Secretary Deb Markowitz. "Trey is well-versed in the many legislative, policy and administrative initiatives we are working on across the agency. He is well respected by our external partners, the legislature, our sister agencies and Agency staff members. I am confident that he will bring a wide-range of skills and talents to this position, and that he will be an exceptional Deputy Secretary for our Agency, and for the people of Vermont."

For his part, Martin remarked, "I am honored and humbled at being asked to take on the responsibilities of Agency of Natural Resources Deputy Secretary. I have big shoes to fill, but I will be working with a terrific leader in Secretary Markowitz and a great leadership team. I've worked very hard for the last two years on behalf of the Department of Environmental Conservation, and I am confident that work has prepared me well to meet the demands of this new opportunity."

Prior to his work at the Agency of Natural Resources, Martin was an attorney with the law firm Downs Rachlin and Martin, where he focused on land use, business law and government affairs. He is a graduate of Vermont Law School and Middlebury College, and has formerly worked as a teacher and school administrator.

In his spare time, Trey Martin enjoys mountain biking, telemark skiing, trail running, cooking and working in the woods. Martin lives in Calais, Vermont with his wife Roberta, four children, and dog Sola.
