Haven Hill Festival celebrates natural and historic resources at Highland State Recreation Area (MI)

Highland State Recreation Area will host a family-friendly day of activities at the 6th annual Haven Hill Festival Saturday, Aug. 23. This free event promotes awareness of the varied natural and historic resources that make up the Highland State Recreation Area and the historic Edsel and Eleanor Ford Haven Hill Estate.

Activities take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Goose Meadow Picnic Site, starting with an 1860s vintage "base ball" game. Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy summer food, a live brass band, vintage Ford Model A cars, self-guided tours of the Haven Hill Lodge grounds, volunteers dressed in historic costumes, and children's activities. An art display will be available at the Gate House, as well as a nature photography display on Haven Hill.

The park is located at 5200 Highland Road (M-59) in White Lake (Oakland County), Michigan, between Duck Lake Road and Bogey Lake Road. The park offers hiking, fishing, mountain biking, swimming, paddling and many other recreational opportunities. To check camping availability and make a reservation, visit www.midnrreservations.com.
