Last Looks at the 2013 NRA Annual Meetings Recognizes Good Deeds

HOUSTON, TX - During Ted Nugent's "Freedom Is Not Free-Repaying Our Debt to Heroes" speech at the 142nd NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits in Houston, TX, two 100% mortgage-free homes were awarded to combat wounded heroes. One of those homes was gifted personally by Randy and Coni Brooks, former owners of Barnes Bullets, LLC to Sergio Gonzales, his wife Denise and their 2-year old son, Brody. "The warriors and their families are just so grateful, which makes it all worthwhile," remarked Coni. "It is great to be able to give back to those who have sacrificed so much to keep us free."

Sergio received a purple heart for his military service in Afghanistan after stepping on a land mine during a patrol. His squad set up an over watch position in a small compound. During their exit, his LT stepped on a mine inside of the compound. At that time they started taking small arms fire. As rounds were going off, Sergio cleared the LT for the Medivac and cleared paths for his guys to get up on rooftops of the compound to suppress fire. Once he got his last guy up on a rooftop, he took one step to the right. He saw a flash and boom, and instantly fell to the ground yelling for help. This explosion inflicted a massive amount of damage. Thankfully, the land mine was buried too deep. Had it been nearer the surface he would have been killed. Sergio suffered an open fracture to the calcaneus and talus, shredded his plantar fascia and has no dorsiflexion movement. He has had ten surgeries to date which all consist of wash outs, skin grafts and bone grafts.

Randy and Coni, in partnership with the Military Warriors Support Foundation (MWSF) previously presented a home to wounded Hero James Gordon and his wife, Laura during a whitetail hunt in November, 2012 at the Walker-Buckler River Ranch in Albany, TX. "James and Laura were completely unaware that they were getting a home," Coni stated. "Both of the home giveaways were truly overwhelming and humbling experiences."

The Gonzales family looks forward to moving into their new home in Heartland, Texas the middle of May. To learn more about MWSF and Homes For Wounded Heroes, visit www.militarywarriors.org.
