(Virginia Beach, VA) -The first-ever Virginia Beach Adventure Race will be hosted by one of Virginia Beach's fiercest competitors - reality television personality and personal fitness trainer Rebecca Cardon. Cardon, a Virginia Beach native, will serve as the event emcee during the weekend-long competition scheduled for September 18 - 19, 2010 in Virginia Beach.
Perhaps known best for her appearance on the 6th season of the hit reality show "The Amazing Race" (Cardon and her teammate placed 3rd), Cardon will host the Virginia Beach Adventure Race kick-off and emcee the race activities, including the scavenger hunt challenge that takes place throughout the resort area. Rebecca also will host the closing awards ceremony, when the grand prize of $10,000 will be awarded to the winning team.
"I am thrilled for the opportunity to return to Virginia Beach, my hometown, and to support these families as they rise to the challenges of this competition," said Cardon. "The Virginia Beach Adventure Race will certainly be unlike any other vacation day at the beach. The competitors will engage in physical challenges and brainteasers while experiencing teambuilding adventures and attractions throughout the resort city."
"Having Rebecca emcee this competition is a natural fit," said Jim Ricketts, executive director for the Virginia Beach CVB. "With her dedication to physical fitness and her exuberant personality, she will be an excellent motivator for our Virginia Beach Adventure Race teams as they compete for the grand prize. We couldn't be happier to welcome a Virginia Beach native to be a part of this great event, and show our teams how to truly 'Live the Life' in Virginia Beach."
The Virginia Beach Adventure Race will consist of five challenges that uniquely show off the city's activities and amenities. A beach-to-sea relay will test each team's endurance. Culinary skills will be challenged during a coastal cuisine cook-off. A scavenger hunt will wind teams throughout the resort city, starting in First Landing State Park, trekking along the famous 3-mile boardwalk and throughout some of Virginia Beach's most exciting attractions, including the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center. The two-day event will culminate in an awards ceremony, where the team with the most points will take home the $10,000 grand prize.
