FWP Seeks Comment on Proposed Isaac Homestead WMA Addition

FWP proposes an approximate 414-acre addition to the Isaac Homestead Wildlife Management Area (WMA) by fee title acquisition. The WMA, located west of Hysham, comprises two separate units. The west unit is accessible by county road and the east unit can only be accessed by the public via the Yellowstone River. This proposed acquisition would establish one contiguous WMA by acquiring the private parcel that separates the east and west units.

If approved, FWP would purchase the parcel at the appraised value of $900,000.00. Funding for the acquisition would be derived from a combination of Habitat Montana and Migratory Bird Wetland Program funds.

A draft Environmental Assessment (EA) Checklist has been prepared and is available for comment. This EA was initially released for public comment on February 21, 2024. However, on February 27, the EA was removed from the FWP website to allow for the completion of a certified land survey. The updated EA can be viewed on the FWP website at https://fwp.mt.gov/news/public-notices or is available upon request from the Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks office in Miles City, (406) 234-0900.

Public comment is welcome and will be accepted until 5 p.m. MST on May 5, 2024. Written comments can be mailed or e-mailed to the address below:
