BTT Seeks Director of Finance and Operations

Bonefish & Tarpon Trust is dedicated to the conservation of bonefish, tarpon and permit—the species, their habitats, and the larger fisheries they support. We pursue this mission through research, conservation, education and advocacy. Position Description:

The Director of Finance and Operations oversees all activities pertaining to BTT’s financial management, human resources, and operational efficiency. The position is based in Coconut Grove, FL, reports to the President & CEO, and may be assigned supervision of other staff. Essential functions and duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Oversee the development and management of organizational budgets, including annual operating and capital budgets, revenue and expense forecasting, and the production of financial reports as required in program management by staff and directors. Support an annual audit.
  • Manage accounts payable to ensure the timely payment of organizational obligations, including disbursement of grants made to other entities.
  • Manage BTT’s Human Resources function, including administration of payroll and benefits, maintenance of personnel files, and the communication of policies and procedures to staff.
  • Manage BTT’s performance appraisal process, providing staff with timelines, forms and other support as needed for annual goal setting and performance assessment.
  • Ensure that all organizational agreements, including grants, contracts and leases, are properly executed, recorded and maintained.
  • Ensure that all organizational licenses, permits, registrations and insurance policies are properly executed, recorded and managed.
  • Ensure excellent central office operations, including management of communications and data systems, public reception, maintenance of equipment, requisition of supplies, and other duties as assigned.
  • With the BTT President, support the Board of Directors by assisting with the production of board reports and materials, maintaining the board orientation manual, and performing other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain and, as needed, develop systems and processes for the effective, efficient functioning of BTT operations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and minimum of 3-5 years related experience.
  • Accounting experience/understanding of accounting practices; knowledge of QuickBooks, Financial Edge or equivalent preferred.
  • Proficiency in word processing and database management.
  • Proficiency in interpreting guidelines and manipulating, analyzing and interpreting data.
  • Strong communications, organization, planning and problem solving skills.
  • Experience negotiating purchases and basic agreements.
  • Ability to thrive in a team-oriented, small office environment and work in a collaborative role with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to use discretion where appropriate and keep confidential information confidential.
