Henry’s “Classically Modern Americana” Big Boy Revolvers In May/June Handgunner

Many were caught off guard by Henry’s Big Boy .357 Magnum revolver design, including FMG Special Projects Editor Roy Huntington. Curiosity sufficiently piqued, he went hands-on with the full grip frame version and the “Birdshead” frame to share his findings in the cover feature of American Handgunner’s May/June issue.

According to Huntington, “This is a brawny, feature-rich, honest sixgun built to shoot anything you have the guts to shoot out of it. It’s plenty accurate, was dead-nuts reliable over several hundred rounds of testing, looks good and shows excellent workmanship and finish. Indiana Jones should have had one of these in his holster rather than that 1917 he had.”

Frank Jardim’s first thought when he picked up the King Cobra Target .22 LR was, “Is this a mini-Python?” In “Switched At Birth,” he puts the new .22 LR from Colt — built on the same frame as the .357 Magnum but with a ventilated top rib, full underlug barrel and 10-shot cylinder — through its paces. “I found I could rip off 10 shots rapid fire into a tight group at 7 yards with absurd speed,” he notes, “I’d forgotten how much fun a .22 double-action revolver can be.”

An Inglis GP-35 9mm pistol is up for grabs as the May/June Handgun of the Month. The GP-35 has a case-hardened frame, color case-hardened finish, Turkish walnut grips and comes with two 15-round Sabatti magazines. The winner will also receive a Wedge XT from Streamlight and Spartan-George Raider from Spartan Blades. Valued at nearly $955, readers are encouraged to enter the free drawing at AmericanHandgunner.com/giveaways.

Other points of interest in the May/June issue include Mike “Duke” Venturino’s advice on making a revolver “personal” (read: as shootable as possible) rather than settling for “as-is” in the Shooting Iron column. In Apparatus Insignis, Frank Jardim contends the Walther PP was “the autoloader that changed everything.” If a time machine is ever invented, Will Dabbs, MD is saving his pennies to go back and buy a “buttload of machine guns.” Learn more about his savvy investment strategy in Guncrank Diaries.
