S3DA Welcomes John Burnette as New North Carolina State Coordinator

Williamsburg, KY – Scholastic 3-D Archery (S3DA) proudly announces the transition of leadership in North Carolina as John Burnette steps into the role of State Coordinator, succeeding Chris Poston, who has served in this position since 2020. During his tenure, Poston worked diligently to grow the state program, increasing memberships while expanding tournament opportunities across North Carolina. Today, the state boasts nearly 250 active youth members who regularly compete in regional and state events. As Poston steps down to focus on family and personal commitments, S3DA expresses its deep gratitude for his leadership and dedication.

John Burnette, a lifelong resident of Marion, North Carolina, brings both passion and hands-on experience to his new role. A heavy equipment operator by trade, Burnette was introduced to archery through his daughter, Savannah, whose involvement on her school’s archery team led the family to discover S3DA. Over the last five years, Burnette has played an instrumental role in establishing and managing three teams, and he currently serves as the Head Coach for Appalachian Archers.

“I wanted to take on this role because of my love for the sport and my desire to see the North Carolina S3DA chapter continue to grow and thrive,” Burnette said. “To promote participation, I plan to keep the program exciting for both the kids and their parents while building strong relationships with archery shops, schools, and civic organizations across the state.”

Burnette’s short-term goals include expanding youth participation by introducing archery into more areas across the state while providing support to new coaches through training and certification. Looking long term, he aims to strengthen the program through statewide partnerships, sponsorships, and annual championship events that highlight North Carolina’s incredible archery talent.
