Indiana: Help clean up Blue Grass FWA on National Public Lands Day

Volunteers are needed for a property cleanup at Blue Grass Fish & Wildlife Area (FWA) for National Public Lands Day on Saturday, Sept. 28.

National Public Lands Day is the largest one-day volunteer event focused on improving and maintaining public lands in the United States. Volunteers will join DNR staff to clean up the area from 8 a.m. to noon CT.

Meet in the main parking lot at Blue Grass Pit off Boonville-New Harmony Road (Parking Lot 16) to grab trash bags and sign in. Volunteers under age 18 need to be accompanied by an adult. Please be sure to wear sturdy shoes and bring a drink. Long pants, bug spray, and gloves are recommended.

Registration is encouraged. For more information or to register, visit on.IN.gov/dfwvolunteer and search “Blue Grass Fish & Wildlife Area Cleanup” using the link under Volunteer Opportunities.

Blue Grass FWA has received growing recreational interest in recent years. In response the DNR is interested in forming a Friends of Blue Grass FWA group. Friends groups work with DNR staff on projects to improve and enhance FWAs. Interested individuals can learn more from property manager Hillary Bulcher at the cleanup event.
