Fall Issue American Frontiersman

(Nashville, Tenn.)

While this issue’s wonderful cover artwork from Paul Calle’s is called “Near Journey’s End,” this special fall 2019 edition is just getting started!

With hunting season right around the corner, we’ve packed this issue with all manner of articles to get you ready like a true mountain man! We’re sharing everything from expert tips on sighting in a muzzleloader to a review of Traditions’ latest .50-caliber rifle. This is the issue that will give you the knowhow to enjoy a bountiful season.

Now once you’ve bagged your deer, we teach you how to butcher it properly without any waste, tan the hide for it to be used in leathercrafting projects, and smoke the venison to keep it tasty over time. We’re even teaching you how to make your own European-style skull mount and build your own classic cooking tripod.

There’s a lot more in this issue, including articles that will teach you how to build a Native American bull boat, set up a tent like Colonel Townsend Whelen, and craft a makeshift survival bow.

We also highlighted some of the heroes that have helped keep the legacy of pioneers alive and well, like George Washington Sears (better known as Nessmuk) and Horace Kephart so you can blaze your own trail like they did.

There’s a great mix of modern firearms, too, including tests of CZ’s 457 Scout, Traditions’ latest ultralight Pursuit .50, Henry’s new Side Gate, and a collection of today’s latest airguns. But perhaps the best feature in the issue is the powerful story written by the late Denis Prisbrey titled “Scout’s Honor.” You’ll get a chance to meet a remarkable young Eagle Scout named Caden Jones, who truly is an inspiration to us all.

Be sure to pick up your copy of this issue, which is available on newsstands now and at OutdoorGroupStore.com in digital and physical formats.
