Delta Waterfowl Double-Reed Calling Championship Headed to Oklahoma City

Presented by Drake Waterfowl and Mack’s Prairie Wings, the Delta Grand National will take place on Saturday, July 26, during the organization’s annual Duck Hunters Expo

BISMARCK, NORTH DAKOTA — If you have plans to make your way to Oklahoma City on July 25 to 27 for the Delta Waterfowl Duck Hunters Expo, don’t miss out on the Delta Grand National Double-Reed Duck Calling Championship—presented by Drake Waterfowl and Mack’s Prairie Wings. Callers will take the stage at noon on July 26, outside the main entrance of the Bennett Event Center at the OKC Fairgrounds. Registration for competitors opens at 10 a.m. on site.

Hosted by renowned World Champion caller Jim Ronquest, the Delta Grand National builds on last year’s successful debut. The inaugural competition featured 18 callers, with Seth Roussel of Shreveport, Louisiana, claiming victory as the first-ever Delta Grand National Champion. Now, it has become a cornerstone event at the annual Duck Hunters Expo.

“We are looking forward to being in Oklahoma City at the Delta Waterfowl Expo and are excited to be a part of the second-annual Delta Grand National Double-Reed Duck Calling Contest,” Ronquest said. “Most duck-calling events are dominated by single-reed duck calls, but with this contest it was important that hunters from all over had an equal chance of being competitive. And with double-reed calls being the most popular calls across the country, it was only fitting that Delta Waterfowl, The Duck Hunters Organization, developed this event!”

The first double-reed duck call was designed and patented in 1950 by the co-founders of Sure-Shot Game Calls—world champion caller, James “Cowboy” Fernandez, as well as Donaldson, Louisiana-native George Yentzen. This innovation changed the world of duck calling and double-reed calls continue to be widely desired by waterfowl hunters of all experience levels.

“We are proud to showcase the Delta Grand National again this year and are grateful for the continuous support of our presenting sponsors,” said Chris Williams, senior director of industry partnerships for The Duck Hunters Organization. “This contest brings a level of authenticity and excitement that truly reflects the passion of duck hunters across the country. If you want to witness some top-notch calling, this is the place to be!”

This competition will be administered under the rules of the World Cutdown Duck Calling Championship LLC. Callers will take the stage to compete for a first prize cash payout/package and the prestigious title of “Delta Grand National Champion.” Cash prizes will be paid to the top three callers, with additional prizes being awarded to the top five places. All entry fee money will be paid out.

Open to the public, the Delta Waterfowl Duck Hunters Expo is taking over Oklahoma City from July 25 to 27. Attendees will be treated to the finest hunting-style calling from avid waterfowl hunters and calling competitors, more than 200 fan-favorite waterfowling vendors, three live stages featuring experts offering hunting tips and tricks, and much more.
